About this book:
“Hi. I’m Darcy.
“Many moons ago, I was living with my parents and couldn’t make a student loan payment. So when I heard that Grace Space “Independent Consultants” make forty dollars an hour, I couldn’t sign up fast enough.
“I didn’t read the fine print.
“That stupid signature launched me into the most embarrassing adventure of my life, complete with kooky characters (like Gertrude, who apparently calls herself a gumshoe now?), big blunders, and sidesplitting laughs. And finally, I started to wonder if the purple dream was too good to be true.”
The book that made Gertrude:
Hi. It’s Robin again.
Before I took a whack at my first novel, I used to write shorter fiction just for funsies. Grace Space was one of those projects. As the story was forming, I really needed an obnoxious character to torture Darcy.
Enter Gertrude.
I never ever dreamed that Gertrude would be anything more than a pain in the butt among Grace Space pages. But Grace Space got me a lot of feedback, and overwhelmingly, readers loved Gertrude.
You could’ve knocked me over with a feather.
So, because they loved Gertrude, I gave her a leading role in my first novel Shelter. And the readers loved her even more. That’s when I thought maybe Gertrude needed her own story. I didn’t know anything about genres or marketing back then; I simply thought, What would be the funniest scenario to stick Gertrude in? I was pretty sure romance wouldn’t work.
So a mystery series was born. I was reading the Mrs. Murphy series at the time and Gertrude had twenty-seven cats, so I thought, why not?
I never dreamed that it would turn into what it has become. I never dreamed Gertrude would be such a star. But I’m so so happy that she is!
More than 40,000 Gertrude books have been sold. I know she’s not for everyone, but obviously, she has some fans. Good job, Gert.

Rhonda Pierce –
I found this book by Robin Merrill a very humorous depiction of attempting a direct sales job. I mean most of us have been approached at some time in our lives to become a part of this and the real attraction is either free products or lots of money and it’s always dependent on how many others we can recruit. This story highlights what can go wrong and how it might change relationship dynamics but it does it in a very humorous way.
I listened to this on Audible and enjoyed the narration by Rebecca Winder.
