So some Faithful Readers have asked: Why the obsession with Ben Fuller’s music?
Ha!
Here’s the scoop:
Those of you who have been with me for a while know about my intense affection for SoulFest, a Christian music festival that has been held in New Hampshire for the last many years and is now moving to Massachusetts. I don’t have the words to express what SoulFest means to me and how God has used this festival to heal me, grow me, shape me. It is the ONLY vacation I take each year and because I’ve spent most of my adult church life working (running around being Martha and not Mary) SoulFest has been the time each year where I’ve been forced to pause, reflect, and hear God’s voice in a way I just don’t, won’t, or can’t throughout the rest of the year.
Anyway, so I was pretty excited to plop down in front of the main stage for the first artist of SoulFest 2021. And that first artist nearly knocked me out of my lawnchair.
I have always loved music, I mean really loved it, and I don’t think I’ve ever been as moved as I was by the testimony that drifted out to me through those speakers that day. I looked at my daughter with my jaw dropped and my eyes wide and said, “WHO IS THAT?”
And so it began. He was relatively unheard of at the time, but I found him online and downloaded everything I could get my ears on.
And every day since, God has used Ben’s music to heal me, grow me, shape me.
That is why the dedication to Greater Life Book 1 reads:
For the songwriters.
You never know whose heart you will
heal, help, change, and bless.
Thank you for your gift.
I don’t think any songwiter has ever touched me or helped me more than Ben. And though I’m a true fan of Ben, it’s important to me that no one thinks I’m obsessed with him. While he’s kind, generous, and talented, he is still just a man. I am obessed with Jesus, and because I experience an outpouring of Jesus’ love through Ben’s music, that obsession extends to his songs, but I’m not staking out his house or anything. 😉
I also wanted to go on the record that featuring Ben’s music in my stories isn’t some marketing gimmick. EVERY part of my real life–from the goats to the Chase Rapids to the softball–finds its way into my stories, and so Ben’s music has by default. And while I never thought for a second that he would need my help with gaining popularity, I do love spreading the good word.
So, there it is! If you aren’t already, please pray for all the artists taking God’s music into the world, into the prisons, into the streets, into the clubs, into the churches–they are changing the world and growing the kingdom, one ear and one heart at the time.
